3 days active holiday at the Aquamaris Strandresidenz on the island of Rügen
In the suitcase are cycling outfits, running clothes (especially the running shoes), swimming costume and two or three casual outfits for the evenings. It starts in the morning by car in Berlin. Two best friends want relaxation, exercise, the finest nature experiences, good food and lots of fun. The drive takes 3.5 hours, the Rügen Bridge near Stralsund and a perfectly arriving Wittow ferry make it possible.
Day 1 - Arrival at 3.00 p.m. and directly an excursion to a cosy fishing village
A good-humoured welcome awaits us. The check-in is done quickly and we have also received the most important information about breakfast and dinner. The moment before you see your domicile for the first time is always exciting. First we park the car in the hotel car park and then we walk a few steps to our holiday flat in a villa in the middle of the pine forest. We spoil ourselves with 45 m² and two bedrooms, a small kitchen and a balcony. Everything in a chic and modern design and very well maintained. We enjoy two bedrooms, both with a double bed It is about 50 metres to the main house with the restaurants, saunas and swimming pool. Even a further distance would not have bothered us, as we want to spend a few active days.
First destination: the fishing village of Vitt and Cape Arkona by bike
Our destination today is the fishing village at the northern tip of the peninsula. By bike, more or less directly on the beach, it is only 8 km. From the hotel we cycle along the Wittower Straße (national road 30) and after about 1 km turn right onto the Zittkower Weg.
After 45 minutes we are in the picture book village and stroll along the charming thatched roof houses to the harbour. The peace and idyll immediately put us in the right holiday mood. We reinforce this with a fish roll from the Gasthof Zum Goldenen Anker, which we eat with a beautiful view of the Baltic Sea. That's what a holiday on Rügen is all about.
On the way back, we pay a visit to Cape Arkona. From Vitt it is a 2 km walk along the Vitter Weg to the lighthouse. We quickly take a few souvenir photos and return to the Aquamaris beach residence via Dorfstraße, Goor, Nobbin and Zittkower Weg.
We treat ourselves to a little siesta and look forward to dinner from the buffet. And of course, afterwards we go for a nightcap in the cosy Klabautermann pub, which belongs to the hotel.
Day 2 - first a run and then a trip to Hiddensee
The beautiful beach in front of the Aquamaris Strandresidenz calls for a morning run. A pleasant 17 degrees allow a run in a T-shirt and shorts. We first keep to the right and after a few minutes reach a beautiful pine forest with wonderfully springy ground. After about 3 km, we turn off onto the beach and walk directly along the water back to the Aquamaris beach residence.
Breakfast with fruit, scrambled eggs, fresh bread and especially fresh smoked fish now tastes twice as good. Plus points for the large selection of teas. Because we green tea drinkers are a bit special.
We put the bikes on the car and head for the harbour in Schaprode. We first have to take the Wittow ferry and then continue via Vaschvitz to the ferry port in Schaprode. The 23 km trip, including the Wittow ferry, takes us a good 45 minutes. We ordered the tickets for the ferry from Schaprode to Vitte and back using our smartphone in the morning, and the bikes can be taken on the ferry for a fee. With the bikes and the day spa card, it's a good 30 € per person. Seagull calls and the sound of the sea accompany our bike tour from Vitte via Kloster and Grieben to Bessin and back to Vitte. After Grieben, the Dornbusch lighthouse, surrounded by beautiful broom blossoms, invites you to take a detour. Below the lighthouse, the plateau offers a fantastic sea view including the steep coast.
We find a nice place to stop in Kloster at Hitthim's Hotel & Restaurant in the garden with a beautiful view. The tour is a good 22 km long, always slightly hilly and of course car-free.
We return at 3.45 pm and arrive at the Aquamaris Strandresidenz at 5 pm. It is just the right time for a visit to the sauna and deep relaxation in the cosy relaxation room.
After dinner at the Strandperle
, the sunlit beach invites you for a nightcap.
Day 3 - a round of Nordic walking on the beach and then a trip to the chalk cliffs and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jasmund National Park.
As early risers, we don't miss out on a round on the beach before breakfast today either. Today a long bike tour is on the programme, we start directly after breakfast.
From the Aquamaris beach residence to Glowe, a decent cycle path runs alongside the country road. In Glowe we turn right to Spycker and discover a wonderful nature park with the Spycker Lake.
Afterwards, we keep going in the direction of Sagard and continue on to Sassnitz. Once there, we test the new, paved cycle path to the Königstuhl. This longed-for cycle path has only been available since 2019. You cycle 12 km from Sassnitz to the breathtaking chalk cliffs and need a good 30 minutes by bike. It is quite hilly, but doable for trained cyclists even without an e-bike.
At the KÖNIGSSTUHL National Park Centre, a very interesting exhibition on the formation of the chalk and the natural history of the Stubnitz awaits us. There is also exciting information about the ancient beech forests - after all, it is because of them that the National Park was included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage. We treat ourselves to a short break in the bistro of the National Park Centre.
Afterwards we can explore the National Park and the impressive beech forests by bike. A real WOW nature day.
The return journey is approx. 22 km via Lohme and Glowe to Juliusruh.
